Job Description: AREA VIII
ER (Postdoc)

The project concerns neuroprotection of neurodegenerative retinas in a long term retina organ culture paradigm. The goal of the project is to identify and characterize the mechanisms of retina photoreceptor cell death and the neuroprotective action of established and new agents using molecular and proteomic based techniques. Part of this work will be performed in collaboration with several other groups within the consortium.

The candidate should master at least one of the following techniques:

The work will take place in a newly built modern well equipped laboratory at the BioMedical Center, University of Lund, Sweden. (www.medfak.lu.se/BMC). Ample opportunities for collaborations with other biomedical specialities, as well as with the clinic, are available.

ESR (PhD Student)

The project concerns neuroprotection of neurodegenerative retinas in a long term, retina organ culture paradigm. The goal is to identify and characterize the mechanisms of retina photoreceptor cell death and the action of established as well as new neuroprotective agents thereon. Particular attention will be paid to the role of various signalling pathways in these respects. Apart from utilising retinal explant cultures, the studies will involve molecular, histological and biochemical techniques. The successful applicant will be given appropriate training in the mentioned methodologies at the home-laboratory, but also through site-visits at the laboratories of several other groups within the consortium, as well as during training courses arranged within the RETNET-programme. The project laboratory is situated in the newly built, modern and well equipped BioMedical Center, University of Lund, Sweden. (www.medfak.lu.se/BMC). Ample opportunities for interactions with other biomedical specialities, as well as with the clinic, are available.
