Prof. Andrea Ballabio is the director of the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Naples, Italy. His main research interests are the identification of genes involved in hereditary diseases; the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of genetic diseases, and human genome analyses. In the past eight years, Prof. Ballabio has been involved in many European networks and he is the coordinator of the QLRT-1999-00793 program. Furthermore, the group directed by Prof. Ballabio has extensive international collaborations including that with Dr. F. Cremers (University Medical Centre Nijmegen), and with many laboratories involved in molecular genetics in many parts of the world.
