Dr. Wissinger and his group at the University Eye Hospital has been involved in several national research networks (DFG-Schwerpunkt "Erbliche Netzhauterkankungen", Sonderforschungsbereich 430) and has led a state research network on color vison from 1999-2002. The laboratory was part of the Marie Curie Training Site "Function and Dysfunction of the Visual System" granted by the EU. In addition there is a considerable number of long-lasting international research collaboration including those with the groups of Dr. Bhattacharya and Dr. Cremers.
