Project Details

Project title:

Role of ocular chromatic aberration in peripheral vision

Project Description:

This project will investigate how the large transverse chromatic aberration (TCA) of the peripheral eye affects our vision. The peripheral visual function, in terms of contrast sensitivity and resolution and detection acuity, will be assessed with monochromatic and with more polychromatic (grey-scale) stimuli. The project also includes development of subjective and/or objective techniques to measure the TCA in human subjects on- and off-axis as fast and unbiased as possible. These measurements of TCA will then be compared to the visual function for mono- and polychromatic light measured in the same subjects. In addition, we will collaborate and compare results on chromatic aberration measurements with Tübingen (NP1). Together with Rodenstock (NP6) we will also perform visual evaluation with and without spectacles with known amounts of chromatic aberration. These comparisons will show to what degree the eye is limited by the chromatic aberration and if it varies between subjects and over the visual field.
