NEUROTRAIN ::: VACANCIES ::: DESCRIPTION

National Research Centre for Environment and Health
Institute of Human Genetics
Postfach 1129
D-85758 Neuherberg

The position is restricted to applicants of EU Member states only. A sound university education in biology or biochemistry, an in-depth practical experimental experience and/or a good educational and methodical background in cell biology and/or protein separation procedures are required.

The successful applicant will work on the mechanism of protein deposit formation (aggresomes) related to the dysfunction of mutated proteins. He will be guided and trained by a colleague already working on this subject. The research focus of the group is neurodegenerative disease related to vision/retinal degeneration and midbrain /Parkinson's disease. We concentrate on the identification and characterization of signaling networks and their perturbation in genetically inherited forms of neurodegenerative disease. The experimental methods in this research field are: protein separation, proteomics, molecular and cell-biology, lentivirally-transduced RNAi, optical methods and mass spectroscopy. We run a mass-spectrometry core facility comprising HPLC and nLC fractionation and MALDI-TOF, Q-TOF and MALDI-MS-MS mass-spectrometry.

We are an interdisciplinary international group with currently seven scientists (PhD or MD) and four students. The position provides exceptional international training opportunities within the frame of a new EU Marie Curie Research and Training network (NEUROTRAIN).

Research at the National Research Center for Environment and Health (GSF) aims to identify health risks for man and his environment at an early stage, to elucidate mechanisms of disease and to develop concepts for prevention and therapy of diseases. We are a non-profit research centre funded by the Federal Government of Germany and the State of Bavaria based in Munich and we are member of the Helmholtz Association, the largest German research organisation. Our work is concentrated in the research fields 'Health' and 'Earth and Environment'.
