eye2you wins Science4Life business concept competition

The team from eye2you, an EXIST-funded startup from the University of Tübingen and the lab of Prof. Philipp Berens, was one of the winners of the Science4Life business concept competition. Their concept of enabling primary care takers, like family doctors and nurses, to provide retina checkups to their patients to detect vision-threatening diseases early on, convinced the jury in terms of innovation, practicability, and social impact.

Every year the Science4Life e.V., a German initiative to support founders of start-up companies in the field of Life Sciences, Chemistry and Energy, awards prices to the best business ideas, concepts, and plans.

Activities of Science4Life are centered around the Science4Life business plan competition for start-ups in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Energy area. Start-ups in the field of life sciences participate in the Science4Life Venture Cup, whereas founders whereas start-ups active in the area of energy have the chance to compete for the Science4Life Energy Cup. More than 300 expert advisers from over 200 institutions are supporting the initiative by acting as coaches, peer reviewers or general experts for the start-up businesses. The spectrum of these network partners covers all areas being essential for entrepreneurs to establish their new company. This includes lawyers, consultants and managing directors of biotech companies, as well as renowned researchers from academia and industry.

We take this prize as further inspiration and motivation for our work to create affordable eye care everywhere.” says Christian Wallraven, one of the eye2you founders. The award shows that there is a need for a retina screening solution and eye2you’s vision of accessible, ubiquitous eye care.
