The finance minister of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg Edith Sitzmann officially opened the new building on March 20th, 2017 solemnly. The minister expressed her enjoyment that all former locations of the Institute for Ophthalmic Research are now unified at one site.

Further greeting were delivered by Anette Ipach-Öhmann, Prof. Bernd Engler, Cord Soelke and Prof. Michael Bamberg.

As representative of the ministry for research Ulrich Steinbach expressed his satisfaction with the new building and its infrastructure. The ceremony was closed by final remarks of the director of the University Eye Clinic Prof. Bartz-Schmidt and the director of the Research Institute Prof. M. Ueffing.
