Construction Activities for the New Centre for Ophthalmology in Tuebingen
Presently a new building for the Centre for Ophthalmology (CFO) is under construction on the campus “Schnarrenberg” in Tuebingen. The opening date is envisaged for the year 2015/16.
The Centre for Ophthalmology in Tuebingen consists of the University Eye Hospital (UEH) on the one hand and the Institute for Ophthalmic Research (IOR) on the other hand. As the IOR is one of the most research intensive institutions within Europe a new building was necessary to substitute its present scattered eight isolated facilities and to consolidate the infrastructure at one location. It is expected that the new building of the IOR costs approximately 21 million € with a main usable area of 3,370 m² and is funded one half each by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the country of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
By the structural connection of the new CFO building to the existing ENT clinic and the Hearing Research Institute the Centre for Neurosensory Systems will enclose in the future the whole infrastructure for research, teaching and patient care.
