In 2024, quite a few things come together: in 1974, the Department of Pathophysiology of Vision was expanded to include Neuroophthalmology in order to establish a clinical pillar alongside the research-orientated area.
The head of this department was Elfriede Aulhorn, who would have been 100 years old in 2023. In 2004, the Eye Clinic's study centre was established and is therefore celebrating its 20th anniversary. Both departments are very lively and have helped to shape their areas far beyond Tübingen and set standards. A reason to celebrate!
How long has pupil research actually existed in Tübingen? That is more difficult to determine, but from 1994 onwards we can speak of a pupil research working group, so another anniversary, 30 years! Bärbel and Helmut Wilhelm both have their 70th birthday in 2024.
They came to Tübingen in 1984 and Helmut will be celebrating 40 years of service in 2024. So there are plenty of reasons to celebrate 2024 as a special year. We therefore cordially invite you to this symposium of anniversaries. As expected, the programme is varied and covers the three areas of neuroophthalmology, clinical studies and pupil research. We will provide an insight into what makes these three elements so special.
Our symposium is all about looking back, looking forward and looking to the future.
