Core Facility for Medical Bioanalytics

Welcome to the Core Facility for Medical Bioanalytics (CFMB) in the Institute for Opthalmic Research. We provide resources and services to support researchers from the University Hospital Tübingen, the University of Tübingen as well as other research institutes with proteomic and small molecule analysis. The idea of the core facility is to allow scientists to access tools, techniques and expertise that would not be available in the individual laboratories. We provide state-of-the-art mass spectrometry technology and experience for the best possible support of your research.


We are offering sample preparation and qualitative as well as quantitative analysis (e.g. SILAC, label-free) of complex samples using high resolution LC-MS/MS technology with different fragmentation techniques (CID, ETD, HCD) as well as targeted analysis (SRM, PRM).

Our service includes extraction, separation and targeted detection of metabolites. At the moment we are offering assays for amino acids, biogenic amines, acetylcarnitines, bile acids and several lipid species. For the targeted analysis of additional metabolites please contact us.

Studies supported by the Core Facility for Medical Bioanalytics cover the exploration of biological systems, disease related alterations and the molecular reaction to therapies. We also provide expertise in functional protein interaction networks, and in combining metabolomic and proteomic information by performing multiple analyses from the same sample. This is particularly valuable for small sample amounts.

We are pleased to assist you in every step of your project. CFMB provides the full infrastructure for proteomics and targeted metabolomics. In addition we work in close collaboration with the Quantitative Biology Center (QBiC) at the University of Tübingen, which provides guidance in experimental design and bioinformatic analysis. Thus you will receive support from the starting point of designing your study, over sample preparation, LC-MS analysis to data analysis and statistics.
